    More Good Ideas

Welcome to Hawk’s Scan Sentry Report.  This is Easter Sunday with stock picks for early this week.

Well, a busy week in the American stock market has come and gone.   If you were to look at last week’s Scan Sentry picks from the week’s open to the week’s close we would be up cumulatively by 3.4%, (which is far lower than our weekly average of  around 12 %), to a large degree on the strength of BJRI breaking strongly out of consolidation. That was a stock brought to our attention by our ‘Pullback 23’ finder in the Scan Sentry Toolkit. The Pullback 23 signal is a powerful indication derived by a combination of our proprietary technical analysis tools.  It looks for a temporary lull  in the trend and creates a signal as soon as the market picks up steam again. I have to admit, it is probably one of my favorite tools to use when scanning daily charts for good set-ups. Like many signals, the set-up is much stronger when tempered by strong volume  or propitious proximity to support and resistance levels. This week it did not show as many signals as it did last week; but it can be identified by the PB 23 label below the ShowMe dot on the daily chart of DO below. You may notice that, this week,  many of our long signals are indicated by our Trend Exhaustion 1 ShowMe dot (TE 1). These are based on our Price Leader Accelleration Oscillator crossing out of an oversold setting.

Since this week, as always, I want to be prepared for anything; I am once again monitoring both long and short possibilities. Of course, your chances of making money trading stocks  are greatly improved  if you have a specific plan for each position you take on. As you look at these stocks, try and identify good entry points coordinated with your risk tolerance relative to appropriate stop loss levels. I  don’t have the space here to propose specific stop loss levels or specific profit targets for each of these suggestions (I am offering 15 today), but I will remind you that these entry ideas are intended for swing trade positions,  usually lasting several days at least.  So, without any further ado, here are the picks…

  • More Precious Than Gold!

Welcome to Hawk’s Scan Sentry Report.  This is Sunday night with picks for early this week.

Tonight  I present no trading lectures. I simply offer my stock picks with charts below the text. However, before I proceed with this weeks offerings I want to thank you for taking your time to read this. Your time (like mine) is extremely valuable; and that is why it is so important that we invest our time in those activities with the highest probability of profound returns.  As traders we invest a lot of our time in studying the markets and trying to extract some capital out of them.   That is an essential part of our work… But, it is important to remember that the richness of our lives is often made of other activities: like self development, companionship, parenthood, or  community involvement. Of course, investing your time is like investing in these capital markets, there is always risk involved; but you will get nothing out of it if you don’t put anything into it.  So thank you for taking your precious time to consider these stock picks which are derived by the efficient  technical analysis of the Arps Scan Sentry Toolkit... and I hope we are rewarded for these few moments.

As always, I want to be prepared for whatever the markets have to offer this week, so I am once again monitoring both long and short possibilities. Please, patiently wait for the highest probability signals in the strongest of these or other stocks to develop before you commit any capital.

    Here are the picks…

  • ! Terrifying News !

Welcome to Hawk’s Scan Sentry Report.  This is Sunday night with picks for early this week.

There is a lot going on right now, and it would be easy to second guess one’s trading plan by trading the news. The problem is, it seems like there’s always bad news. Well that’s because, by and large, only the most worrisome events are published as news. In fact, many ‘stories’ are intentionally framed by the media moguls to incite apprehension.  Fear sells and motivates.  Well, I guess ‘The Market’ must have turned of it’s television and radio because, in spite of several years of doom and gloom, somehow the American indexes have rallied faster and farther than ever before in history. That’s why the savvy trader will get his/her news from the charts.  The only information that is important to the stock market is who is putting their money where and when…. And the only way we can have any clue to that is by learning to read the data provided by technical analysis.

Don’t get me wrong,  this week I am tending to be more bearish than bullish. But not because of Libya, nor because of Washington’s  unwillingness  to collect the revenue it needs to keep our government doing the people’s business. No, I’m bearish because I am in agreement with the way one well respected trader recently put it when he said, “The market is acting a little heavy in here to me.  Prepare to batten the hatches…”

Nonetheless, because I want to be prepared for anything,  I am once again monitoring both long and short possibilities for this week. Below are my offerings for entry possibilities. I have come by them by performing scans using the TradeStation Scanner configured with tools from Jan Arps’ Scan Sentry Toolkit and other filters, and then sorting the results on the RadarScreen with the Scan Sentry Toolkit applied. So, through the laborious efforts of technical analysis made so much easier by the Arps Scan Sentry tools, here are this week’s selections.  Always  remember,  although equity selection is  important, by itself it is insufficient for consistent market success. Disciplined risk management is needed to prosper in the financial jungle which is the stock market. Please, patiently wait for the highest probability signals in the strongest of these or other stocks to develop before you commit any capital.

    Here are the picks…

  • Dante Was Right !

Hawk's Scan Sentry Report for Monday April 4

Welcome to Hawk’s Scan Sentry Report.  This is Sunday night with picks for early this week.  But first, here’s something to think about.

One of the reasons so many people do not make money trading the markets is because the mindset required to do so is often counter-intuitive to the mental habits we have developed to get this far in life. Today I want to discuss ‘Hope’.  In our emotional  and spiritual lives ‘hope’ is an essential element in the ongoing struggle against despair and cynicism. It is often the fuel behind a healthy curiosity and a reasonable ambition. It is a part of what makes children so beautiful, they are our hope for the future. Hope even played an enormous role in the election of our current national president.  But trader beware…for there is no hope to be had in the financial markets. Your market positions are not your children! The entry to every trade should be prefaced with  Dante’s famed inscription over the gates of Hades, “Forsake Hope All Ye Who Enter Here”; for when you find that your trading decisions are driven by, or even influenced by, hope… well, that’s when you know that you need a more specific trading plan.

So, prefaced by my own declaration that I have no hope invested in these stock picks but, given the appropriate entry conditions, I will have money invested in some; here are my offerings for entry possibilities early this week.

I have come by them by performing scans using the TradeStation Scanner tool configured with the Arps TTB Pullback23 and other filters, and then sorting the results on the RadarScreen with the Scan Sentry Toolkit applied. So, through the laborious efforts of technical analysis made so much easier by the Arps Scan Sentry tools, I have come up with several ideas to look at for entry possibilities for short term swing trade positions.

    Here are the picks…

Futures and forex trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. An investor could potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without jeopardizing ones’ financial security or life style.
